In most high schools these days there is some form of dress code implemented for students. These dress codes commonly include the length of shorts, making sure the length comes past the finger tips for girls and no hats or baggy pants for boys. The schools say the dress codes help teach students how to dress modestly in preparation for moving into the workforce. I can say I was surprised when my daughter came home from school recently to tell me the dress code had changed banning both leggings and yoga pants. My daughter has several pairs of these pants and had worn them for years with no problem. I was completely baffled by the high school’s decision to ban girls from wearing yoga pants and leggings. The girls are completely covered up and no skin is showing so I don’t understand how these pants are distracting to boys. I feel that this should be a teaching moment for boys. Instead of blaming the girls for how the boys might be acting out they should be teaching boys to show respect towards the girls. Not all girls wear leggings or yoga pants for unwanted attention. My daughter’s choice to wear them to school was honestly out of laziness especially during track season. Most days she would just wear leggings to school because she had practice right after school. She loved how comfortable the pants were that they started wearing them all of the time not just for track due to comfort, and definitely not seeking unwanted attention. I can remember wearing leggings at their age for the same reason because they are comfortable almost like wearing pajamas to school. Some parents might say that this ban is a good thing because it will keep boys more focused on school and not focused on girls. The truth is boys will be thinking about girls no matter what they are wearing. It is not the girl’s responsibility for how boys act out. In an article on TODAY.com, “High School Adds Dress-Code Restrictions to Yoga Pants, Leggings Amid Protest,” Superintendent Robert Sanborn, states "It has to do with employability. We're passing on the skills that are needed in the workforce, to know that's not proper attire when you're at work." I do not quite understand this reasoning, because I know many people who are allowed to wear leggings at work. I personally wear leggings or yoga pants a couple times a week. I feel that this is the school’s way of justifying the dress code to parents. I understand there are rules put in place for one reason or another and we are made to feel that we need to follow them. This is one rule I cannot support. The rule is not in place because girls are showing to much skin, but because you can see the shape of their figure. I'm sure everyone has seen them. The pants so tight they appear to be painted on. But then they realize, they're not actually pants, merely relatively thick tights masquerading as pants. Suddenly they're thinking, surely these women forgot to put on the bottom half of their outfits. Notwithstanding, this abomination was completely intentional. Women are now wearing leggings in the stead of pants, which is one fashion trend that our community, and the world at large, could do without. Although undoubtedly comfortable, and completely acceptable when worn under dresses, skirts, long shirts, and shorts, leggings are not the most flattering article of clothing when worn in lieu of pants. When worn incorrectly, leggings draw attention to the negative aspects of the wearers body. People can see every jiggle of the thighs and butt, every dimple of cellulite, and every crevice of a person's anatomy. Generally speaking, most females would not want to promulgate these details of their bodies, but todays young women apparently thrive on displaying them for the world to see.
Varying Issues Corresponding to the School Dress Code Numerous cases have been presented and highlighted in the media based off of accounts from angered parents and students protesting the school dress code. Multiple reports are taken from females who experience the shorter end of the stick due to increased fashion interests and sexist mindsets of their school staff. Shame suits are humiliating outfits that those who break the rules must wear as a form of punishment, most of the time these consist of extremely unflattering clothes that have written phrases on them indicating that their appearance is due to their violation of the school rules. Punishments indicated a risk to the violators education caused by missed classes. Few in society do approve of the dress code as it controls female students’ modesty, banishes distraction, and preserves the professional atmosphere inside a school.

The dress code he established only proclaims to be “neat and clean.” The author saw no problem until the attire came so close as to be dressing at the beach, so he conducted a meeting with his staff and decided something should be said. When the author wrote the work dress guidelines, he got the input of the teachers and what should be expected by each guideline. There are more dress code policies for the females compared to the males. My final reason isn't a dress code that is banned yet, but there is talk of it possibility of it being banned. This dress code is not being able to wear leggings in school property. I think this is wrong because girls wear leggings a lot because they are cheap, cute, and match pretty much anything. Also you can wear them under a cute dress or skirt that is too short. Why would you want to banned something so many girls wear? I know they are skin tight, but so are skinny jeans. That is why I think leggings and yoga pants shouldn't be banned from the school dress code.
