Schizophrenia is a serious disorder, which affects how a person thinks, feels and acts. People with schizophrenia will tend to have difficulty distinguishing between imaginary and reality. Roughly 1% of the United State population, or 3 million people, are diagnosed with schizophrenia. There are multiple factors that could cause schizophrenia, such as genetics and environmental. Currently there is no cure, but there is therapy to help manage symptoms.
Schizophrenia’s as a mental illness is very demanding and it can be especially difficult for parents with children who have schizophrenia, while uncommon not isolates. These children experience hallucinations that tell them to do terrible in Brenna’s case, whom is fifteen years old, was murder, where the illness became exceedingly strenuous that she was sent to a permanent residential treatment center. Brenna’s sister, Ailish, also struggles with the mental illness tried to strangle her younger sister, Kieran, and even attempted to commit suicide at age six.
Briana Schaffer is another child who shows these similar symptoms of schizophrenia. She has been diagnosed with dissociative disorder, autism spectrum disorder, sensory integration disorder, psychosis disorder, and mood disorder. They would never be alone, as these characters would constantly attempt to control her. Their moods would frequently swing from bliss to anger. And the children constantly like certain voices and want the bad voices to go away.
The parents and family also deal with these continual symptoms. Jani’s condition has forced her father to take a leave of absence from work to keep care of Jani. It also forced him and his wife to live in separate apartments to keep Jani away from Bodhi and their relationship has become strained because they need to take care of Jani over spending quality with each other. These children need continuous attention to keep them grounded in reality.
The everyday tasks have become challenging for children with schizophrenia because they cannot be out in public for public safety. In Jani’s case, when she was out walking in public with her parent, she would become violent and had attempted to attack Bodhi. Her parents had to subdue her just to protect herself and Bodhi.
