LOL, Dead! What would one want to be their last word on earth? LOL? Drivers who text and drive very well may be allow their last words to be just that. Arizona has no law regarding texting while driving, with no law in place the act is not regulated. The result is an increase in accidents causing multiple fatalities every year. Statistics have proved that texting and driving is extremely dangerous and has led to many accidents that have ended in fatality. There are states in our nation where texting bans are in place and the accident rate has dramatically decreased. Nearly everyone will admit that texting and driving is not only dangerous for the driver and passengers it is dangerous to other drivers on the road as well as pedestrians. Most will still do it. Texting and cell phone use has literally become somewhat of an addiction. Cell phones can be found by bedsides, in the hands of people walking, even on desks of many students while in class, who should be paying attention to instructors. Is “LOL” or “On my way!” really that important that it cannot wait? Not only should drivers consider taking action to not text, but as a state Arizona should be finding lawmakers who are willing to stand up for safety. Studies have proven that bans DO work to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities caused by texting and driving. Without a consequence for texting and driving, accidents and the number of fatalities will increase at an alarming rate. Use technology in a way that it will not harm others and be aware of the impact that it has on our community. A ban on texting and driving may not prevent everyone from actually doing it, but if it saved one life, it would be worth it. Become digitally responsible today!
