Why would you not want to live in the island of enchantment? Puerto Rico or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is an island south of Florida and is in the island chain, The Antilles. Puerto Rico’s location is a huge benefactor to its economy and culture, one of its main cities is San Juan, which is also the capital of Puerto Rico, and one of the hotspots for tourism in the entire Caribbean. San Juan is a great place to live because of its interesting history, culture, and its tropical climate.
San Juan’s rich culture plays a huge role in the annual tourism income and the type of style Puerto Ricans live. Discovered in 1495, Cristobal Colon set foot in San Juan, but it was not until 1508 that Spaniards actually settled there. Juan Ponce De Leon founded the original settlement, Caparra. San Juan has seven very distinct districts: Old San Juan, Hato Rey, Condado, Isla Verde, Guaynabo, Santurce and Rio Piedras. From its beaches in Isla Verde to the streets with souvenir shops and designer boutiques in Old San Juan, San Juan is a great place to be. Condado is home to designer boutiques, glamorous hotels, and the finest dining in all of San Juan. Over in Old San Juan, San Felipe del Morro castle has breathtaking views of the Caribbean and a great place to relax. The streets filled with colorful houses are a distinct trademark in Old San Juan. Many shops for souvenirs, restaurants, and designer boutiques crowd the streets as well. Placerville California is located near Sacramento. This gold rush town was named after deposits of placer gold that was found in the river beds in the 1840’s. Being so close to where gold was first discovered in 1849 many people came flocking to this city in hopes of finding their fortune. It is located only 10 miles from the city that gold was first found in. The placer gold deposits the town got its name from were found in the river between Spanish Ravine and the town plaza. With all the miners rushing to the area Placerville soon became a much needed supply hub during the gold rush.

The island was first discovered by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage in 1494 and became a colony of Spain in 1509. They founded the town now known as Spanish Town and it was the capital of the island until the 1800s. Under the Spanish, the native Arawak Indians died out because of slavery and disease, and Africans were brought in to work in their place. The Spanish ruled the country until 1655 when Sir William Penn of the British captured the colony by force. It was later tuned over legally under the Treaty of Madrid in 1670(Jamaica).
When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
Every time I hear this song it makes me long to leave all of my responsibilities and head off to the city of dreams. A trip to New York has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I have always wanted to visit the place of tall buildings, history, and where culture is intertwined with its people. I have wanted to live the fast pace life of a New Yorker, where I could stand outside and see, smell, and taste all of the experiences that this city has to offer. I have been building and building this ideal image in my mind for so long. If I ever get to New York, will I be disappointed by the city that never sleeps? The city that is a part of almost every movie I watch. Can New York live up to the expectations I have created?
