Why would you not want to live in the island of enchantment? Puerto Rico or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is an island south of Florida and is in the island chain, The Antilles. Puerto Rico’s location is a huge benefactor to its economy and culture, one of its main cities is San Juan, which is also the capital of Puerto Rico, and one of the hotspots for tourism in the entire Caribbean. San Juan is a great place to live because of its interesting history, culture, and its tropical climate.
San Juan’s rich culture plays a huge role in the annual tourism income and the type of style Puerto Ricans live. Discovered in 1495, Cristobal Colon set foot in San Juan, but it was not until 1508 that Spaniards actually settled there. Juan Ponce De Leon founded the original settlement, Caparra. In 1533, fortification buildings were beginning to be built, La Fortaleza was one of the first, which was used to protect against the natives. San Juan has seven very distinct districts: Old San Juan, Hato Rey, Condado, Isla Verde, Guaynabo, Santurce and Rio Piedras. From its beaches in Isla Verde to the streets with souvenir shops and designer boutiques in Old San Juan, San Juan is a great place to be. Condado is home to designer boutiques, glamorous hotels, and the finest dining in all of San Juan. Over in Old San Juan, San Felipe del Morro castle has breathtaking views of the Caribbean and a great place to relax. The streets filled with colorful houses are a distinct trademark in Old San Juan. Many shops for souvenirs, restaurants, and designer boutiques crowd the streets as well.
