Sameness In The Giver

The Giver takes place in the future in a place that the people call community, the community is isolated from the rest of the world. It is protected by a boundary called the boundary of memory, and everyone is exactly the same, no one is better or worse than anyone else, they are all equal. In the communities the people have no memories of the past, for us it is the present day. The communities are not exactly controlled but they have to follow certain ruler, rules that were made by Chief Elder. None of the citizen know what feelings are, like for example they do not know what love is. The Giver is revolved around a character named Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites, who is helped by an old man, the old man is called “The Giver”. He helps him gain little memories of the past, which is present day for us. The whole society is the same, they have basically the same lives, except for their jobs everyone is assigned a different job. They all have the same life styles. In the movie everything is the same, from the style of their home to the food that they eat. It is all the same all throughout the movie, they do not have anything that is out of the ordinary or out of place. All of their lives are the same, they grow up, they get assigned a job, they work, and then they die. From person to person, home to home, lifestyle to lifestyle, it is all the equal. Nothing different, just the same all throughout the society. Sameness throughout the society describes how this is an anti utopian society because living in a society like in The Giver, where everything is the same and you have certain restrictions is bad because you do not get to be independent. Living in a place where you are not able to be independent is not a great place to live
