The Sacrifices We’re Willing To Take
Everyday people make small willing sacrifices knowing the outcome of these sacrifices. Whether it be their life for someone else's or possibly just by giving their time to listen to another person. Sometimes we make these sacrifices because we are trying to be a good person or we are trying to be an ethical and moral person. Other times it is because we care and have compassion for those we are sacrificing for. We make these willing sacrifices knowing what we are getting ourselves into and knowing what comes along with the sacrifice, just like in the story “Antigone” and the villagers in “The Lottery”.
In the short story “Antigone” a young woman is distressed at the fact that the king would not bury her brother. She believed it was not up to the King to keep her brother’s soul trapped on Earth and not sent up to the …show more content…

In this movie they take one night a year where you can cleanse yourself of all your anger by going around and committing any crime you wish. They believe that this makes everyone get along and live happy lives throughout the rest of the year. In “The Lottery” they take one day out of the year where everyone draws out a piece of paper and one person is stoned to death by everyone in the village. Both stories use violence to cleanse themselves of any anger and bad thoughts. Many people find these stories ethically and morally misguided because people are being harmed. If you take a minute to look at the bigger picture you will see that this is what those people know, unlike us. The people in these stories grew up with these kinds of things and believe that it is the ethical and moral thing to do. For example, in “The Lottery” they sacrifice only one person a year so that the entire village can get along and live happy lives throughout the year. The people in both of these stories willingly participate and take the chance of sacrificing their own
