It is vital to understand that the type of sacrifice must not be misconstrued. Today, an individuals’ perception of sacrifice seems to have been warped by events and situations that take place and are broadcast in media and in movies, whether it be a villain that is killed in a in the latest blockbuster or a soldier dying in war. Examples of this are evident in films such as “Man of Steel” where Superman kills Zod in order to save innocent civilians in the last fight scene and the film “Fury”, where the Allies fight against the Nazi’s. The main idea behind the concept is to bring to light the fact that sacrificing oneself does not mean that you have to die, kill or be a hero in order to help others. The main purpose is to encapsulate the notion that individuals can sacrifice their comforts, ideas, views, values and philosophies in order to help others. Although Superman kills Zod where he could have possibly done something else in order to save the civilian’s lives, the underlying idea behind doing something he was reluctant to do and going against his own views and values, motivates the concept of venturing out your comfort zone and sacrificing yourself.
