Gothic Fiction and Frankenstein Gothic fiction literature touches on the aspects of horror, mystery, manipulation, superstition, and death. Many events in the story are a result of this writing style, many times involving a monster or paranormal being of some sort carrying out acts of terror on the innocent. The various murders in the story are a common occurrence when it comes to this literary time period, and this makes no exception. Family is also used in this as it is used in many other Gothic pieces of work, used in manipulative ways, based around the innocent. He originally is not a morbid creature, but soon finds out he can get what he wants with his strength. In the first half of Viktor’s narration, he speaks of the assassination on his younger brother William. Justine, a young girl living in the Frankenstein household, is accused for committing the murder, and is executed for it. Later in the narration, it is revealed that the monster did it, proving more of his willingness to kill. Later in the story, Viktor makes his way up to the peak of a glacier, hoping to drain his mind of all of his sorrows that he has been drowning in recently. The monster confronts him there, wanting to talk to him about his life up to that point. This when the monster tells Viktor about how he managed to make his way to Geneva, kill William, and frame Justine. The monster also tells Viktor about how lonely he has been, and how he has been travelling alone for months and months. The monster believes that the fix to this is for Viktor to create a female creature, so that he can have a companion. The monster claims that if he does not have a companion to marry, he will be with Viktor “on his wedding night”. Viktor agrees at first, but in the midst of this creation, he realizes that he may be populating the world with these creatures if they decide to mate, and quickly destroys his work. The monster is enraged, and on Viktor's wedding night, instead of killing him, he kills Elizabeth. This causes Viktor to go out on a wild chase attempting to kill the monster, but this ends up turning back against him, as the monster ends up killing Viktor, and realizes he is now truly alone in this
