Robin Williams Robin Williams was born on Saturday, July 21st, 1951, in Chicago. His mother was a former model from Mississippi and his father was a Ford Motor Company executive from Indiana. Robin studied political science before he decided to enroll at Juilliard to study theatre. Once he left Juilliard, he performed in nightclubs where he was discovered for the role of "Mork, from Ork", in an episode of Happy Days (1974). When he auditioned for the role, the producer Garry Marshall told him to sit down. He immediately sat on his head in the chair. Never less he was hired even though he was the only one that auditioned. Happy Days led him to a TV series called “Mork and Mindy” in 1978. He ad libbed so well in this TV serious that the producers didn’t try to make him go by the script and left gaps in later scripts for him to improvise. Not only was he a hero to children but he also changed lives of others. In 2001 Robin went to the Gorilla Foundation to met Koko the gorilla who speaks sign language. Koko hasn’t smiled in months since her best friend Michael, a 27 year old gorilla, passed away. Not only did Robin cheer Koko up the effect seemed to be mutual. In minutes of meeting Koko they became best friends. It was extraordinary and a very unforgettable moment. When the news of Robins death came out Dr. Patterson explained to Koko that they had lost a dear friend. She bowed her and quivered her lip at the news. Everyone was devastated. Robin Williams faced many problems while growing up. He overcame a drug and alcohol problem in the 1980’s. Also in 2006 he checked himself into rehab to be treated for alcoholism. Robin Williams had a heart problem and had open heart surgery on March 13, 2009 to replace his aortic valve. Where he then successfully recovered at the Cleveland
