Life is often difficult. The speaker in “Acquainted with the Night,” by Robert Frost, is all alone and in a dark place. Where ever he went no one really cared about him, nor did any one care who he was. Robert Frost uses imagery and symbol to set a melancholy tone and with a theme of, people can overcome many hardships in their life, especially when they don’t think that they can. In the poem, Robert Frost expresses plenty of imagery to help set up the mood and the theme. The “City” is used as imagery to show that the speaker is in a city with all these big buildings and all these people surrounding him and yet the speaker still feels all alone.
