The 2011 film, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, portrayed the evolution of a chimp named Caesar. A scientist named Will developed a drug known as ALZ-112, which allows the brain to create its own cells to repair itself. ALZ-112 is injected into a chimp. The chimp showcased signs of higher intelligence. Unfortunately, the chimp was killed when it went on a rampage. However, the chimp had given birth before its death. Will takes care of the infant chimp and named him Caesar. Caesar had inherited his mother’s superior intelligence. Later on in the film, Caesar is sent to a shelter because he injured a neighbor. In the shelter, Caesar begins to developed more human attributes such as the ability to speak and higher reasoning skills. Angry over the harsh treatments in the shelter, he escaped and steal the drug from Will’s home. However, this drug was more powerful than the one Caesar’s mother was injected with. Caesar used the drug on the other apes in the shelter. Eventually, Caesar led an army of apes to escape into the Redwood forest. …show more content…

It was flawed in demonstrating the evolution of a species. In the film, the most serious flaw came from when the apes in the shelter came into contact with the gene therapy drug. They begin to develop higher intelligence as if overnight. The drug was designed to create new brain cells, but even if the drug was that effective, it simply cannot reprogrammed the apes’ brains in a series of hours. The apes was demonstrating actions that took generations for humans to develop. The drug might have create new brain cells, but it does not technically generate any new genes that can spread rapidly within the population to change the entire species.
