The extract has been taken from the speech of Martin Luther king which was dilevered at riversde church in Newyork on 4th April 1967. As the speech was delivered near Church the target audience would be limited to people pesent there; however king’s speech has large media coverage thus, the speech would be heard throughout USA and not only in newyork. The purpose of this speech was to mould public opinion against war in Vietnam. Aurhor developing his argument tries to pursuade the audience through adding personal context- his true feelings for the war in Vietnam- he goes onto explaining that poverty programmes started in USA were actually stopped as funds and human energy was used to aid expenses of war. Author’s choice of words such as “I” implies his own view points which gives better insight to the reader as to what author actually thinks about the war. This keeps the reader more involved and Author would certainly pursuade public of USA that the countru should actually pull out of war. In the second paragraph, author raises attention towards the death rate increasing due to conscription and eradicates racial differences between blacks and whites by outlining an incident that if white men in chicago has to face cruelties. This way Americans would be able to relate to the incidents and would be pursuaded to convince hovernment of USA to end the war in Vietnam. This extract by Marther Luther would really encourage an averge American to accept the unjustice with people of Vietnam and protest for it. Because Luther king has made use of several imaginery incidents which Americans could better relate to would actually awakes sense of ownership in them further changing their opinion against USA
