Copenhagen Snuff is advertised toward the middle of the magazine. From the picture displayed, it is directed toward men eighteen and older. The tin of Copenhagen is laying on a pile of nuts and bolts. The nuts and bolts allude to a more masculine job or task. At the same time, smokeless tobacco can only be purchased by someone who is eighteen or older. This ad uses glittering generalities to appeal to men. The dark and rough background brings attention to the bright and shining tin. It pushes the idea that upon purchasing this item, it shows a sense of masculinity.
However, the thing that stands out on the page is the warning sign covering half of both pages. The large, bright white letters juxtapose the dark background. Reading “WARNING: This product can cause mouth cancer,” it creates a sense of disgust. While trying to get the name of a product out to a vast audience, it also pushes away potential customers.
