I am a very consistent person. I don’t like trying new things or going places where I don’t feel comfortable. To be honest reading the directions for this activity really scared me, because I knew I would experience some anxiety and wouldn’t feel comfortable going somewhere alone. Ever since I was born I have been taken to church and was forced to be involved in church activities. I am very familiar with Baptist churches and attending church services that last about two hours and filled with majorly African American individuals. After each scripture was read the two performers would perform a short tune before allowing the next scripture to be read, and they would raise a hand to signal the audience to sing along. At my church, all scriptures are read at one time, and all tunes are sung separate to the scripture readings. Also, in a Baptist church the audience isn’t necessarily signaled to sing along, they have the option to either sing along or stay seated and enjoy to tune. Although these were small differences, they were still differences that caught my attention. Of these small differences, I wanted to know why Catholics sings after each scriptures. After doing research, it has come to my attention that those little tunes aren’t necessarily songs. Those tunes are the scriptures being sung instead of spoken. Catholics believe that singing is a higher form of worship in comparison to monotone speaking. Learning this was sort of amusing to me because the whole time that they were “singing,” I was looking through their hymn book trying to find the matching hymns so that I could sing along when all I had to do was open my
