Reflection On The Lowes Art Museum

For my museum visitation, I chose the Lowes Art Museum at the University of Miami. The reason I favored this museum was firstly I work for the University of Miami so the admission is free and also they are currently exhibiting Renaissance and Baroque period art which is my favorite. I was not sure what to expect, I have visited famous museums such as Museo Nacional Del Prado in Spain, MoMA is New York, and the National Gallery of Art is Washington, DC, therefore, my expectations weren't very high. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and historical pieces exhibited at the Lowes. The pieces that drew my attention the most were Christ and the Penitents, Portrait head Mummy Mask, The Whore of Babylon from the Apocalypse, and the Adoration of the Magi. …show more content…

It was the last room of the museum and as soon as I walked in I was captivated by this painting. The main attention is on the beautiful torso of a man with the most beautiful impeccable skin, his expression heavenly. I inspected the painting for quite some time, I knew it was Christ and a group of people seeking forgiveness, the position of his hand is almost as if inviting you to join him. The painting gave me a sense of peace. Finally, I looked at the title “Christ and the Penitents, n.d.” painted by Gerard Seghers from the description I am not sure where it was painted maybe Italy or Spain.
