Luke’s gospel was written in 80-85ce, after the destruction of Jerusalem occurred and the temple being destroyed. From this event the “gentiles questioned, if God was unfaithful to Israel, then what chances did the gentiles have?” Therefore the basis of Luke’s gospel “shows that’s God was never unfaithful, but instead fulfilled all promises through Jesus, who opened the way to salvation for all people”. Luke was able to send this message across through his portrayal of Jesus, which helped shape his communities’ new identity as Christians.

A main part of Jesus’ mission was to teach others to treat people equally as it was an important quality Christians should contain. Luke incorporated various verses of Jesus’ teaching to portray this as he taught about fasting (Luke 5:33-39), neighbours (Luke10: 29-37), prayer (Luke11: 1-4, 15:13), forgiveness (Luke 17:13) and concern for the disadvantaged (Luke 14:12-14). This title is also reinstated at the baptism by the voice from heaven saying, “You are my son, the beloved; with you I am pleased” (Luke 3:22). Through Jesus receiving the title ‘Son of God,’ Jesus’ relationship with God is reinforced as it emphasis how God works through Jesus to show he has not given up on his follower. It also draws the connection to everything Jesus did for us is through God’s actions and will, in order to bring salvation to all. Jesus is also referred to as ‘Son of Man’ in the genealogy incorporated in Luke as it links Jesus to being the “son of Adam, son of God.” (Luke 3:38). By Luke tracing Jesus’ descents to Adam and God’s creation, it connects Jesus to humanity universally, thus amplifying how God has a relationship and bond with everyone including the gentiles through
