Receiving My Scholarship

When I was accepted into Scholl I was elated by the news that I had also been chosen to receive a scholarship. Receiving this scholarship was the first of many positive and welcoming experiences I received as a new member to the North Chicago community and has served as a constant source of encouragement. Throughout my first year I have worked in a continued effort to make sure that the trust placed upon me by the generosity of the donors and the community as a future physician has not been misplaced. With the first year into a new program comes a great deal of change and uncertainty. Early into my first year I set the hefty goal of excelling as a student, becoming a part of extracurricular activities and volunteering to give back to the community that plays such a large role in our learning experience. While my time achieving my undergraduate degree provided me with strong organizational and learning skills, I knew that I would need to adapt these prior skills and learn new ones to be successful in my aspirations. While doing so, I have worked to refine how my time can best be spent studying the course material. This has meant learning to emphasize a mindset of comprehension over memorization, ensuring that I understand the crucial basic science information to build upon in future courses. Having the opportunity to participate in a handful of amazing volunteering events, such as the Chicago Marathon, the Walk to Cure Arthritis and Project CURE, has allowed me to see the impact that the involvement of one person, or a group of people, can have on others.
