The article “Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer” by Murphy Paul, talks about how reading can make you look at the world in a different perspective. There’s more students who read online than an actual hard copy of a book. Many students are using online to read but they don’t usually enjoy it. I believe reading a hardcover is exceptional than reading online. I agree that reading literature makes us smarter and nicer. Deep reading is a good thing to do. Deep reading helps us understand what the book is really trying to say. In this article it says, “Researchers reported that 39% of children and teens read daily using electronic devices, but only 28% read printed materials every day.” (Paul,2)This shows how more people read online instead of a hard copy. Many of those who read online don’t find it interesting than those who read a hardcover book, “A growing body of evidence suggests that online reading may be less engaging and less satisfying, even for the “digital natives” for whom it is so familiar..” (Paul,2) This shows that reading online isn’t as good as reading a hardcover book even though more decide to read online. Others who read onscreen are as well less likely to be above-average with their reading. Reading in print can actually help increase your reading skills, “The study also found that young people who read daily only onscreen were nearly two times less likely to be above-average readers than those who read daily in print or both in print and onscreen.” (Paul,2) Those who read in print have a better chance in having a higher score in their
