Raymond Carver was a working-class writer. Raymond was born in Oregon on 1938. By the time he became 3 years old, his family moved to a city named Yakima, located in Washington. His family was a working-class. His father was a saw-filer working in local saw-mill. His mom took many hard jobs like waitress, and more. He started to help his father at the saw-mill. When he was 18 years old by the time he was graduating his high school. He married an16 year-old Maryann Burk after graduation. When he became twenty years old, he had two babies. He stopped helping his father at the saw-mill, and started to take various jobs to maintain his children and wife. He stated to study literature. He took creative-writing course at Chico State College on 1958.

The story begins in Italy with a young girl asking her father to tell her a story about her childhood. He responds by telling her of what his young life was like with her mother. This text explores the themes of responsibility, maturity, commitment, choices, and above all, unity. Carver utilizes this frame narrative to explore a vast world of change, ending on a note that often leaves readers feeling ripped off due to its lack of an immediate point. At first glance, this text appears to be nearly completely pointless, coming across as if it was pieced together in a few minutes, and holds no real meaning at all. However, upon further inspection, Everything Stuck to Him seems to hold so much meaning that it would take an endless amount of time to pull apart all of the different interpretations of the text. Raymond Carver’s short story Everything Stuck to Him possesses multiple potential interpretations, some of both successful and unsuccessful endings.
