RAYMOND ALBERT KROC
Ray Kroc was born in Oak Park Illinois in the fifth of October of the year 1902. At the age of four Ray's destiny was read when his father took him to a phrenologist who predicted he was going to have a career in food.
In 1917 Ray Kroc, only 15 years old at the time, lied about his age to join the Red Cross as an ambulance driver. While in the Red Cross he was in Company A, which was the same company as Walt Disney. He did not make it to Europe, however, because the war ended too soon. After the war he became a piano player. In 1922 he had also become a salesman for the Lily Tulip Cup Co. While a salesman he was quoted as saying, "The definition of salesmanship is the gentle art of letting people have it your way". However, the beginning of his success was when he met Earl Prince. Earl Prince had invented a multi-mixer. Kroc figured the machine was good enough to be sold and used elsewhere. So in the early 1950's he got permission to go about the country and sell the multi-mixer.
While peddling about the country he came in contact with the super efficient McDonald's hamburger joint, which was started by Dick and Mac McDonald, who were brothers. He saw this place and optimistically envisioned many more opening up all over the country. He convinced the brothers to let him be their first franchisee. They agreed so in 1954 Ray opened up the first McDonalds franchise. A year later, Ray opened up the second McDonalds franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois. Only four years after the second restaurant's opening the one hundredth McDonalds was opened. In 1961 Ray Kroc bought the rights to the McDonalds franchise for a meager 2.7 million dollars. To pay this massive sum at the time he had to mortgage his house and take out numerous loans that would eventually cost him 14 million to pay back. After he bought the rights to the name and the company he forced Dick and Mac to remove their name from their original restaurant. But he went even further when he opened up a McDonalds restaurant a block down the road trying to put them out of business. Also that same year Hamburger University was opened.
In 1963 there were many great things the 500th restaurant was opened and the one- billionth burger was sold.
Raymond Lewis was born on October 8, 1910 in Hamilton, Ontario. He was the youngest son of Cornelius Lewis and Emma Green. Living in that era, Lewis faced racism in many forms, such as kids his age calling him names, or teachers treating him poorly because of his skin colour. While this may have been upsetting and demotivating for most, for Ray it was actually helpful, as all the negativity just motivated him to do better and work harder. Apart from that, he was also known as “Rapid” Ray Lewis, as he could outrun anyone his age. From that moment, anyone knew that he would outshine his peers in the future.
He was born on February 6, 1895 to his parents Katherine Schamberger and George Herman Ruth Sr. in Baltimore, Maryland.
Samuel "Sam" Taliaferro Rayburn was born in Tennessee in 1882. He was the eighth of 11 children. When Sam was 5 he moved west with his family to a 40-acre cotton farm just outside the small community of Flag Springs, Texas. At the age of 18, Sam left the family farm and went to East Texas Normal College in Commerce. His father sent him off with $25 and he added to that by sweeping school rooms, ringing the class bell and building fires in school stoves. After a year of college, he paid debts and earned more money teaching in Greenwood, Texas. He then returned to Commerce and finished his three-year degree in two years.
Ray Charles was born on September 23, 1903 to a very poor family. Although no birth record exists, his mother, Retha Robinson, dubbed him Ray Robinson, which he later changed so as to not be confused with Sugar Ray Robinson, a famous boxer (World Book 383). Ray Charles, or as everyone called him RC, was born to a mother only sixteen years old and she had another coming. By RC’s first birthday, his little brother George was born. “None was sure who George’s father was, but all remembered that Mr. Pit and Mis Georgia, who had no children of their own, adopted George to take the added burden off Retha”(Michael 7). While Retha was not able to watch over RC, he was cared for bye her friend Mary Jane, who was split up with her husband and had lost her son.
On May 17, 1956, the well-known boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard, was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Named after his mother’s favorite singer, Ray Charles, his real name, is not often used. When Leonard was three years old, they moved to Washington D.C. Being one of six kids was hard for the parents of Leonard. Then seven years later, his family finally moved into a nice, permanent home in Palmer Park, Maryland, a Baltimore suburb. Sadly as a child, Ray witnessed many crimes and deaths in his neighborhood. He also had some friends die in these areas.
James Richard Perry was born in the small town of paint Creek Texas, on March 4th, 1950. In a town with the population less than 400 you have to find things to keep you occupied. Perry spent most of his time working on this family ranch. Even at a young age, Rick Perry reach his goals. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout scout I feel like; at a young age, he was determined to do good things.
Gosh! I’m so hungry do you know what sounds good Mcdonalds. I go there at least once a week. The lines are usually always rapid all the way around the build but it's worth the wait. The first Mcdonalds ever built was at Des Plaines, Illinois since 1940. I love their Mcchicken and their chicken nuggets. Today, Mcdonald’s advertises is everywhere on billboards, on tv in music ads, and etc.

Also in 1961, Kroc opened Hamburger University in the basement of a McDonald’s restaurant, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. By 1963, McDonald’s was selling a million hamburgers a day. The company went public in 1965. In 1967 the opened their first international restaurant in Canada. In 1971, McDonald’s restaurants opened in Europe and Australia.

As a child his father Louis Kroc took him to a physic who claimed that Kroc would be successful in the food service industry. When he was 15 he lied about his age to participate in the Red Cross as an ambulance driver during World War I. But the war had ended before his training was completed.
Everyone has heard of McDonald’s, but where did this familiar name come from? When people think of American food, it is not uncommon for two golden arches to appear in their minds. This story began with two brothers Dick and Mac McDonald who owned and ran a small restaurant in San Bernardino, California during the 1940s. In 1954 a man named Ray Kroc came across these two brothers while selling multi-mixers and was impressed with the business they were running. The menu was compact, listing options for only a few burgers, fries and beverages, but the restaurant was effective in its operation. Ray Kroc pitched the idea of spreading McDonald’s restaurants across the United States and in 1955 he founded the McDonald’s Corporation. By 1960 he bought the exclusive rights to the name. As a company, McDonald’s was first introduced in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955. This was the very first McDonald’s restaurant, which all started in San Bernardino, California in 1954 when Ray Kroc approached the McDonald brothers with a business proposition to start a new company. In 1965 McDonald’s went public and was later, in 1985 added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Skinner was named the new CEO just in time to clean up after McDonald’s first ever quarterly loss. McDonald's Corporation is the largest fast-food operator in the World and was originally formed in 1955 after Ray Kroc pitched the idea of opening up several restaurants based on the original owned by Dick and Mac McDonald. McDonald's went public in 1965 and introduced its flagship product, the Big Mac, in 1968. Today, McDonald's operates more than 30,000 restaurants in over 100 countries and have one of the world's most widely known brand names. The McDonald's Corporation is the largest chain of fast food restaurants in the world. It is franchised in over 119 countries and serves an average of 68 million customers daily. The company started in 1940 as a barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald in the United States. They reorganized their business as a hamburger stand in 1948. In 1955, Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent. He purchased the chain from the McDonald brothers and oversaw its global-wide growth (McDonald’s 2014).
He saw how much potential the restaurant has, so he bought it out and opened one of the first franchises. Within the first year of Ray Kroc buying it, there were one hundred and two locations all around the world. McDonalds currently is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world and currently has served over sixty four million customers through one of their thirty two thousand sites. It has almost become a way of life for America. Though, McDonalds started off as a small business between two brothers, it grew into one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world and greatly affects our society and how we eat our food.
