“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” -Malcolm X. Cordia High School has been one of the targeted schools that has been that has been subjected to racial profiling. The director, Andrea Kuehnel, emphasizes the adversities brought by racial profiling through the film “Us Against the World”. The film includes the characterization that African Americans are implanted in, due to the color/pigmentation of their skin in a society where they’re used to receiving a whole new (aspect and effect). After the continuous winning streak that Cordia had, many team players suffered discrimination. For example, in an episode teaser #15, racism was pointed out by many school officials due to the unfair game against Knott’s county. I believe that racial profiling is the pinnacle of this film. It examines the ideology that each community reflects on based off of the pigmentation of skin color. Throughout the film racial profiling is continued which affects the motivation and determination of the team. It creates a negative impact in their mind through the sport of basketball, which contradicts the purpose of being in basketball.
