Kate Chopin’s story “Desiree’s Baby” is a sensitive subject of the class based and racial prejudice.

Desiree was adopted child by a wealthy french lady Madame Valmonde who she found her lying in the shadow of a stone pillar near Valmonde gateway. Desiree was asleep when Monsieur found her, and when Desiree woke up, she cried for “dada.” Madame Valmonde believed that Providence sent her this beautiful and affectionate child because she didn't have children of her own.

Armand fell in love with Desiree when he saw her standing next to the stone pillar of the gateway, and he thought he had known Desiree for years since he came back from France after his mother's death. Monsieur Valmonde wanted to ensure that Desiree’s unknown origin was carefully considered, but Armond didn't care because he loved her very much. Armond mother loved France so much and she didn't want to leave France so she lived and died there. Armond was a very strict man with his workers and L’Abry has lost its easygoing nature like his father used to be. When Valmonde sees Desiree laying beside her baby, she was frightened to see baby's face. Valmonde speaker in French, and Desiree laughs that the baby has grown a lot. Valmonde looks the baby boy more closely and she asked about Armond’ thoughts.
