Racial Bias against the Muslim-Americans in our community

“I’d love it if American kids were listening to Muslim music.” (Brian Eno). It is rare to hear Muslim music because it is not as famous as other ethnic music, this may be because of the lack of publicity that Muslim culture gets by society. The incidents of hate crimes towards Muslim-Americans after 2001 have increased tremendously according to the FBI statistics. Muslim-Americans and Sikh-Americans shared personal stories of being discriminated and feeling pariahs after the incident of 9/11. Muslims-Americans have become pariahs after 9/11 since there is an increase of incidents and discrimination towards them provoked by the morality in society.We should change this problem in today’s society towards Muslim-Americans by speaking up, exposing the problem, and encouraging a nation that embraces equality and justice for all.
Since 9/11, there have been several attacks considered as hate crimes towards Muslim-Americans and Sikh-Americans within their own community because of the conflation that exists between both cultures, to be mixed or confused together which is the source of the similarity that they both share in the religious image. Prabhjot Singh, an Assistant Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a Resident in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital was violently attacked due to this conflation. Maria Alvarez, a writer for Newsday, states in article that, “The professor, whose lower jaw had to be wired, said he heard his attackers yell ‘Get him!’ and ‘Osama.’” (www.newsday.com). This makes him pariahs because they are attacked due to their image for being religious.But Singh only responded to his community and attackers by expressing his concern of the religious image that is targeted...

...w York city disregards and is unaware that the American-Muslims and the American-Sikhs communities are being targeted, at times discriminated against, and victims of prejudice.
As the racial targeting, hate-crime increased, racial discrimination bullying, becoming victims of prejudice, and having unequal publicity because of bias racial after 9/11 towards the Islam-Americans. It was often proven how Islam-Americans have become pariahs in all religion that are in the categories of Islam, because of the similarity in the image that a Sikh-American or Muslim-American holds. However this bias view in society towards the Islamic-American is certainly wrong because it has created an unfair environment in communities for them which leads them to become and feel pariahs, as it should be change by speaking up, changing the way we socialize around the topic as it may spread.
