Hemingway character essay Hemingway, as we known, is one of the greatest author in American literary history. He has a special skills in writing, especially in character description. As a matter of fact, Hemingway added a new kind of hero to American fiction. This kind of hero is called “Hemingway hero”. There are several traits for a “Hemingway Hero”. These traits include personal honor code, a high self-esteem, the quality of decency, the display of bravery in emergency and wonderful skills. In Ernest Hemingway’s “The Killers”, George, the bartender, qualify every requirement of being a hero and showed readers what a true Hemingway hero look likes. First, George showed great confidence when he was in emergency situation. After two killers, Al and Max, came in, George soon figured out what these two people were trying to do and how to deal with them. Al kidnapped Nick and Sam in kitchen and threatened George if he reacted in a wrong way, he and other two poor restaurant employees would be slayed. George went down to the kitchen and untied Nick and the cook. He realized two of them, Al and Max, were definitely villains. They brought shot guns and engaged in a murder. George knew that he should do nothing because anything he did wrong could put him in a dangerous position. However, he still sent Nick to reminds Ole Anderson. “ ‘Listen,’ George said to Nick. ‘You better go see Ole Anderson.’ ”(Page 78). George was the guy in charge and he was responsible to the safety of him and the restaurant. He knew that if Al and Max acknowledged the news he and his fellows would get in trouble immediately. Therefore, why George still take the risk? The reason is he was a decent man. A decent man has the heart of protecting other people. This action, was a wonderful display of bravery
