Thomas Jefferson “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost!” Imagine if we applied gun control logic to our press! Freedom has a price, it has many price's, one of those is that people will find ways to abuse that freedom to harm his/her fellow citizens. Law-abiding citizens cannot be asked, or even forced by any type of legislation or executive actions, to give up their own freedom because others that take advantage of it. Americans have a right to bear arms according to the second amendment of our constitution. The sovereignty of each american individual is the foundation of our constitution, so no matter how much “the greater good”, any solution proposed that will possibly harm the second amendment, or any amendment for that matter, is in …show more content…

The government only did this when it conducted research that concluded that the more gun owners there are, the more violent crime there is. So in theory if you reduce the amount of gun owners there are, then the crime rate will go down. You may ask why i bring up a point that goes against my views. There was a major flaw in australia's research. It took statistics from the ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE WORLD(which was roughly 6 billion in 1996). In 1997 great britain banned civilians possession of almost all handguns in response to the dunblane massacre.(18 deaths including the criminal and 15 non fatal injuries, 18 deaths=16 children, one teacher,criminal. Let also remember the florida shooter killed 17 people, not including himself) today in britain, there is more violence and crime then compared in 1996 when the gun laws were passed. In switzerland the government encourages its citizen to own firearms. Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world(total of 40% crime decrease between the Vaud and Geneva regions 2000-2017).
