Most people in the United States drink alcohol, either for socializing purpose or to forget the negativity in their lives. Especially freshmen students who are spending their first time away from home, away from their childhood friends and school. They will be dramatically searching for a way to socialize and make new friends to start a new life. The current minimum legal drinking age should not be lowered under the age of 21 because drinking under that age could be really harmful to teenagers. Teenagers should never be counted as adults. Obviously, their body is still growing and any harmful element might affect them negatively. James Fell stated that the normal adult's liver can process “50 alcohol calories an hour”, and he said that a study showed that “teenagers’ liver can only process half that amount”. He also mentioned that an 18-year-old adult might be physically fit and strong that is why they might be allowed to fight but not to drink (Fell). Opponents of the current …show more content…

This issue is present because young adults are not being educated enough and they have not been properly informed that in some states like Michigan, New York, California, Washington and 13 other have an“ exceptions to allow underage consumption of alcohol under certain circumstances” that when reporting medical need due to underage drinking for another underage drinker (45 States That Allow Underage Alcohol Consumption). Thus that means that underage drinkers will have no penalty if they reported a binge drinking accident of another underage drinker. This law should be transmitted to the knowledge of the young adults, by their parents, their schools and by the public; in bars in restaurants in every single place where liquor is being served or sold this law should be clear enough to the public.
