Sinking the Shark Two of the most commonly feared creatures on planet earth are usually thought of as either the elusive shark or the mighty bear. It is difficult to determine which predator is superior. One way to determine which predator is more elite is to have them fight to the death. The field they battle on must contain water deep enough for the shark to swim and maneuver, but shallow enough to allow the bear to be mobile. On an equal playing field the bear will prevail because it has the capability to destroy its prey on multiple surfaces, and it instinctively will have the reaction time to avoid its enemy. With a collection of attacks, the bear will mutilate its opponent. The bear’s first method of attack is its mighty paws with razor …show more content…
Arguments for the shark claim that the shark will defeat the bear because it has serrated teeth, which are layered in multiple rows (Wikipedia). Additionally, they think the shark will defeat the bear because of its ability to hit the bear with tremendous amounts of force. The shark swims at speeds as fast as twenty-five miles per hour (Wikipedia). At this speed along with its massive weight of around five thousand pounds the shark will practically launch itself through the bear to kill it (Wikipedia). These arguments are flawed because the bear has already learned to use its quick reaction time to catch its dinner. Bears are naturally great fishers in nature, so it gives them an advantage in the fight because of their increased reaction time (Wikipedia). Once the shark approaches the bear, the bear will protect itself from the attack. After it evades the attack, the bear will counter with any of its lethal attributes. One way the bear will counter the shark is to lure it into its grasp and find a way to get it above the water line. From there the bear will simply let the shark struggle for survival, or it will kill its opponent immediately with one swift bite. For a victory, the shark must deliver a deadly bite. If the shark either whiffs or faintly attacks the bear, then it will deliver a blow with its claws to the shark’s head or gills and end its life. …show more content…
On an equal playing field the bear surpasses its opponent because it can attack the shark with many different abilities, and it can also dodge the shark because of its natural reaction time. Once the shark realizes the massive size of the bear, it will understand it is the underdog in the battle. Although the shark will put up an enduring fight with its elusiveness, the bear will thrash the shark with its strength and awareness of the shark’s attacks. As long as the bear is able to stay alert during the brawl, it will evade the shark at the beginning and use its sheer might to demonstrate it is the most dominate predator on
The Great Shark debate – to cull or not to cull, has been at the forefront of the minds of conservationists, as well as the general population for many decades now. The opinions of everyone are divided, according to their personal experiences, and views on what is right and wrong for the environment.
Australian beaches are some of the best in the world and WA beaches are some of the best in Australia. But this may soon no longer be a view held by everyone if the WA government continues to support and allow the shark culling off Perth's major beaches. Hi I'm Maya Koentgen, a marine biologist, ecologist and fellow beach user, and I'm here to tell you why shark culling needs to stop. At the moment hundreds of innocent sharks are being caught and killed and why? Because they are simply swimming in their own homes that us humans have invaded.
This image is what a majority of people believe to be the shark. They believe it to be the bloodthirsty sea monster that appears in countless works of literature and films, but science says otherwise. The classic picture painted by the minds of sailors returning from years at sea come from imagination and sharks’ violent methods of hunting and mating. Sharks fear humans as much as humans fear sharks, and most sharks, particularly the “man-eating” great whites, only bite humans because they mistake surfers for seals. In earlier times, the ocean was a source of mystery and adventur...
you think there is no chance for the men, one of them kill the shark
In the movie “Jaws”, which is a 20th century film, the preying shark terrorizes the beaches of New England. After he is finally trapped, he is killed- but not in the same fashion as Grendel was. The shark was shot in the mouth and then blew up to do a CO2 tank he had swallowed. The way in which each antagonist was killed was in two very different ways: with and without weaponry, respectively.
All animals under go a process of constant change in their physical appearance and in their behaviour. These changes take place over millions of years and the species that survive, do so because throughout their evolution they have perfected certain strategies that have enabled them to develop more successfully in the environment they inhabit. One such case of this successful development is the great hammerhead shark.
It all began with good intentions. People thinking that they can control these animals and not expect any negative impacts. It was all due to wanting to explore and entertain with the animals. However, not all animals are meant to be taken from the wild to be show animals. After many years of unfair ways, SeaWorld is doing the right thing by closing down the whale exhibit even if it isn’t by choice because it is unhealthy for both the humans and animals involved.
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to go online and sign a petition to help stop shark killings and to support the entire Racing Extinction cause in order to save species around the world from going extinct.
When he hunted all of his prey; he use a channel—that with a firm touch of a button—the channel opens up and giant rocks with razor sharp edges emerges from the bottom of the ocean to the vast ocean—positioned like a shark with a wide open jaw; ready to devour its prey in any second. Another option of capturing preys is by shooting at it with open fire ( Connell, 226 ). General Zaroff let his prey decides on how they want to meet one’s death. One is an exciting and thrilling death or two, an agonizing and excruciating death. One or the other nonetheless, reveal General Zaroff’s true ferocious and bloodthirsty

Currently, live whale performances have become well liked for tourists to visit. When they are there, they only see what they want to see and do not care or want to know all about the complications the whales go through just to make people smile. The documentary “Blackfish” exposes the truth about the whales, their habits, and why they act the manner they do when in captivity. The inhumane treatment of whales in captivity causes negative effects on the animals which, in turn, affects the humans who care for them.
Predation has strong effects on the structure of communities and ecosystems. Many different types of predators have been studied, both terrestrial and oceanic. Although larger marine animals like sharks have barely been studied. Since sharks are some of the largest and wide-ranging predators in the ocean, their ecological role must be of importance. Recently shark populations have declined due to fishing. This has brought them the attention of ecologists and has given them a reason to be studied. Marine biologists are debating the effects sharks have on the ecosystems and other species. Meanwhile, they are also wondering whether sharks are the fundamental cause of these changes or will they
Titanic’s maiden voyage was set to go from Southampton to New York City, with stops in Cherbourg France and Queenstown Ireland. The Titanic left port April 10, 1912 and was scheduled to arrive in New York on April 17, 1912. She was then scheduled to go back to Europe later that week. On her maiden voyage, Titanic never went her full speed of 24 knots. The fastest she went was 22 knots.
The role the Polar bear plays in its habitat is a huge one by being a keystone species where by the rest of the subsequent food chain rely on the polar bear to survive especially the lesser carnivores such as artic foxes and wolverines. They also keep down seal populations, especially Arctic permeant species such as the Ringed seal. By hunting on sea ice the polar hunts for the cubs of the seals by breaking into warrens located under the ice, if lucky the polar may catch the adult seal which would be a larger meal. If the not all the meat is eaten then scavengers then feed on the rest, thus giving
As Santiago thought the ultimate challenge was over, the worse was yet to come. The shark had sensed the Marlin’s blood and moved after it. It approached and ate the Marlin. The old man had to fight back with them. “Fight them. I’ll fight them until I die.” (Pg. 115). Santiago used all of his supplies to fight with the shark: harpoon, tiller, etc. By the time Santiago came back to Havana, the Marlin now was just a carcass bone. The sharks played an important role in the story.
