Profanity has been a major issue more recently. First, let's create a base to what social media and profanity really are. Social Media is websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Profanity is blasphemous or obscene language. These definitions will help clarify the information given later. I looked into the use of profanity in social media and how it has changed over the years. I also look into the impact it has had on people and how our President uses this language against women. Well, yes and no. Yes because more and more people are using profanity in today's society than in previous years. Also, no because we also don't realize how much profanity is used until we are older and use it more often. Profanity has escalated in social media. Profanity is celebrated in social media forms such as twitter, facebook, and tumbler. This is where people go to express frustration and anger but also happiness and love. Profanity isn't only used in social media when we want to express our anger or any other feeling just like this, it is being used to praise other and express our over joy for certain situations. Profanity can have 'good' or 'bad' meanings, depending on the context it's used in. For example, in a 'good' way you can say "Damn, you look nice", this means that that person thinks you look really good. But it can also be used in a 'bad' way, for example, someone could say "You're a piece of shit", this means that this person doesn't like you so they were being rude. It is important to notice that people are using social media as a platform to use profanity against others. This language has so much power over society. We need to take steps into bettering it. But in this era where the President uses profanity against others, is it possible? YES. It is possible. We need to stop giving this language power over our thoughts, emotions, and the way we perceive others. We give this language so much control in social media because we can be anonymous. No one has to know who we are, and that's the problem. We can take steps to reducing this language seen in television. This will make a big impact into how many people are using it. Of course there is no way that we can go about reducing this completely but little steps will help reduce this language. Also, the aspect of how to reduce profanity without inhibiting freedom of speech is tricky. Of course no one can stop you from saying it on the street or on your own social media sights. But we can limit how much is heard on tv and other things like that. We all should personally take responsibility in the way we refer to other using profanity. It's one thing to use this language for fun but another to use it in a demeaning way towards
