There is nothing worse than being stuck on the side of the highway with a flat tire and not knowing how to change it. Flat tires can happen anywhere at anytime, and being stranded can make a person feel helpless. Knowing how to change a tire is a necessary skill that all drivers should learn. It saves time on waiting for an emergency roadside help, as well as avoiding costs for people that do not have the benefits of the free assistance. Sure, there are some individuals that may prefer to have a professional change their tire, but there may come a time when circumstances will require it to be done by oneself. Referring to the owner’s manual will help locate the tools needed as well. If the tire has a hub cab, remove by using end of lug wrench to pry it off. Take the lug wrench and slightly loosen the lugs nuts of the tire; do not remove completely just yet. Next, place the jack just to the front of the flat tire and pump or crank it up securing it to the frame of the car. Suitable locations may vary with each vehicle, so refer to the owner’s manual for the best place to put it. Jack up the vehicle until the flat is at least six inches off the ground, then unscrew and remove the lug nuts completely. Now remove the flat tire from the hub by grabbing it securely with both hands and pulling it off. Remove the spare tire from the vehicle, and install it onto the hub by mounting it on to the lug bolts and pushing it until the lug bolts are through the rim, then put the lug nuts back on to the lug bolts and tighten them all by hand. Do not use the lug wrench to tighten the bolts until the vehicle is lowered back down; it can cause the wheel to simply rotate, or the car may fall off the jack.
