No one ever said reading would be fun, but that’s an opinion based decision. Reading comes in different forms and methods. Having to read something doesn’t automatically require it to be a boring book. There are so many things to read like blogs, tweets, comics, and etc. I like reading because it’s interesting, not only is it interesting it helps educate, and improve your intellect. Reading is not only good for you and your knowledge; it allows you to become a well-rounded person. There is no deny that some books, articles, etc. can be boring but there are a lot of interesting narratives in the world as well. The definition of “educate” is to provide information in a particular area. Just reading a book or an article a day can educate you on new words or situations, and things you never knew. That’s why a lot of times teachers will give you reading assignments, to make sure you understand the material and words you have read. Although it may not be an incredible assignment it will eventually help you in the long run. In the anecdote “How Teachers Make Children Hate Reading – by John Holt” Holt stated “I told my students that every time they came upon a word in their book they did not understand, they were to look it up in the dictionary. I even devised special kinds of vocabulary test, allowing them to use their books to see how the words were used” (Jon Ford & Elaine Hughes). Holt also stated that “Every chapter was followed by close questioning and testing to make sure the students “understood” everything” (Jon Ford & Elaine Hughes).
