I am doing this paper on electronic monitoring. I am doing this paper because I need a paper to write for you and this is the page I opened to in the book to get the idea. No, really because I believe that electronic monitoring is a terrific way to police probation and parolees when probation and parole officers are so severely overworked. By not having to check in on the offenders as much, because at any time we can hit a button and know exactly where they are, or be notified instantly when they are somewhere they shouldn’t be, it would be a lot easier on probation and parole officers.
Electronic monitoring is a good idea and should be used more. The advances in technology can be very useful in community corrections. Implementing GPS technology into these el...
Imagine two separate individuals who both receive a $500 driving citation due to invalid licensing. One individual has the financial security to pay the fee, while the other does not. The wealthier individual can mail a check to the local court and the fee is satisfied. On the other hand, the underprivileged individual is placed on a pay-only probation through a private probation company, which requires them to make small payments with additional supervision fees until the debt is paid. Throughout this process, they are under the constant threat of incarceration if they cannot fulfill their payment requirements. Furthermore, the more impoverished the individual is, the longer it takes to pay off the citation and additional
Community supervision of law violators can achieve similar advantages and prevent the disadvantages of incarceration. There are both advantages and disadvantages to community corrections and incarceration. I support community corrections because I believe it has more positives outcomes and less negative effects than incarceration.
The twenty first century in the century of technology, where technology is heavily used in the people daily lives. One of the field where technology is being utilized in is monitoring people through cameras and phone calls. Although it might be interfering with people privacy, but it has its advantages that might outweigh the disadvantages. This essay will discuss both points of view, and try to decide which one is more reasonable than the other.
Community correction is a term that refers to everything ranging from diversion before the trial to the punishments that follows after the trial. This refers to any way ranging to non imprisonment yet supervised ways used to deal with criminal offenders who are facing conviction or who has been convicted. (Beck et al., 2001). Probation as well as parole are the two most commonly way of dealing with the offenders though there are many ways such as being confined at home, electronic surveillance, day fines, community service shock probation and residential community supervision to mention but a few. The following are some of the intermediate sanction actions in the criminal corrections:
Probation is defined “as a form of punishment allowing a criminal to stay within his/her community under close supervision following strict orders given by court officials and probation officers.” (Siegel and Bartollas, p.71) The goal of probation is to allow offenders to avoid the disgrace of feeling like they have been confined to prison. Nevertheless, the pros and cons to sentencing someone to probation are as followed; Pros: This form of punishment allows convicted offenders to show positive transformation by, giving back to their community through community service, reduce the high rate of recidivism as well as, urine and drug samples and required proof of employment; Verifying that change is being made. Electronic Monitoring allows court officials to determine whether criminals are truly obeying their orders. This form of punishment also has Cons: breaking probation and repeating the offense is very common when dealing with probation. Conservatives would say that probation is a “soft-crime” and has no real severity when in terms of punishment. In my opinion, I feel that probation is effective for only petty crimes like: theft, shoplifting, robbery, burglary etc. Teenagers are more deserving of this punishment because of the reality of being scared straight. Not being able to leave your house or Jail time for breaking probation Is usually what straightens out
A probation system is an opportunity offered to offenders with minor crimes or good behavior in where the offender is not send to jail instead he/she is put it in probation in where they have to report to a police officer and they have to follow the court orders and cannot break the law. Usually probation is an opportunity for offenders to reintegrated with the community. The North Carolina Probation system is based on supervising the offenders and help them succeed. Also making sure that the offenders don't go back to prison or jail. The organization of the probation system is very similar to a corrections goal which is overall rehabilitation. Probation is not given to anyone, before an offender is place on probation a judge would look at all his criminals record, acts against
Although they can be easily tracked, people overlook the invasion of privacy possibility because of the convenience they bring to every day life. Systems like OnStar installed in cars have made the tracking of stolen cars practically effortless. Similar tools are being used by law enforcement, Penenberg stated “cell phones have become the digital equivalent of Hansel and Gretel’s bread crumbs” (472). He then goes on to discuss how in Britain in 1996, authorities installed 300 cameras in East London. Although this didn’t affect the terrorism, it did affect the crime rate which fell 30 percent after the cameras were put into place. Penenberg closes his essay by mentioning that the surveillance is not only used to watch the citizens but also for citizens to keep an eye on the government. Through his organization, relevant information, and professional tone, Penenberg creates an effective
What is the difference between juvenile diversion and probation? Juvenile diversion is processing a juvenile without going to court. It is a referred to the commonality board like court for youth, or if there is legal insufficiency they would dismiss it. Diversion can have a number of essential and imperative designs. It can benefit juveniles who are low-liability that are less likely to make poor decisions and avoid the stress that can have consequences from being delinquent in the determination process. Diversion has provided some great conveniences for public collaborators and victims to have an effective role in managing low-liability juvenile delinquents. The diversion development can deflate accountability of the courts, which would on the other hand come across as impractical for them to arbitrate every single delinquent that is recommended for it. Diversion is also in-expensive it would be expeditiously against the, opposed actions. Diversion also helps the process in reducing probation cases; also, it helps the appropriate capabilities for staff’s precious yet limitless time to more of the serious delinquents. Probation is usually for offenders who need to be rehabilitated by strict supervision but do not need to be incarcerated. Probation has optional arrangements with condemnation given out by the judge that would also allow for halfway housing arrangements and other programs such as conversion programs. Even though, diversion programs deflect confinement and condemnation probation punishes if one should be convicted of an offense and could possibly be confined if the delinquent should happen to violate their terms of the probation process (State of Alaska, 2012).
I am writing this email to appeal me being put on academic probation. I believe that there was a factor of my education that the academic board has missed, and I wish to clarify what exactly it was.
The United States criminal justice system is an ever-changing system that is based on the opinions and ideas of the public. Many of the policies today were established in direct response to polarizing events and generational shifts in ideology. In order to maintain public safety and punish those who break these laws, law enforcement officers arrest offenders and a judge or a group of the law offender’s peers judge their innocence. If found guilty, these individuals are sentenced for a predetermined amount of time in prison and are eventually, evaluated for early release through probation. While on probation, the individual is reintegrated into their community, with restrict limitations that are established for safety. In theory, this system
A correctional officer is apart of a staff in a detention center, prison, or a jail that sets to accomplish the goals of the institution’s objectives by maintaining control and order within the prison (Seiter, 2011). While the role of a correctional officer is very crucial within a prison, depending on the unique role to a specific location, it is important that we understand that these humble and quiet guardians are in the correction facilities. Between the different criminal justice facilities, the mission and goals between them are vastly different, although there is very little contrast in the roles that correctional officers play in these facilities. Correctional officers are solely in charge of the direct and constant supervision of prisoners and administering the security procedures and protocols within a facility. These officers also need to be extremely well informed in the technical and interactive realm of the prison system as daily interactions with the inmate population requires them to have strict adherence to policies and a sharp attention to

The corrections system has varied in many way throughout the years, and most people have mixed feelings about how it is being ran in today’s world. The system has changed over time all over the world, but it has also changed in different regions in the world. For example, some laws and regulations have been changed over the years that apply to the whole nation, while some laws and regulations only change in certain states. Not only do laws around the nation change, but the way prisons are ran in certain areas of the United States have changed over the years. Although laws and regulations of the correction systems change over time, the United States finds a way to enforce the law in the most efficient way possible all over the nation.
Prison was designed to house and isolate criminals away from the society in order for our society and the people within it to function without the fears of the outlaws. The purpose of prison is to deter and prevent people from committing a crime using the ideas of incarceration by taking away freedom and liberty from those individuals committed of crimes. Prisons in America are run either by the federal, states or even private contractors. There are many challenges and issues that our correctional system is facing today due to the nature of prisons being the place to house various types of criminals. In this paper, I will address and identify three major issues that I believe our correctional system is facing today using my own ideas along with the researches from three reputable outside academic sources.
This will all change in the future, now that the media and privacy advocates are starting to ask questions. Law enforcement security cameras clearly have many benefits to our society, and with the right policies in place the negative aspects will pale in comparison. Works Cited Kelly, Heather.
