While I would personally love for many of the things we now think of as science fiction to be widely available to consumers the reality is that it most likely will not, at least not within my lifetime. Not because they aren’t possible but more likely because we haven’t figured out how to get them done yet. Technology is and will continue to be the main game changer in this regard for years to come. But we have to also worry about losing that same technological edge, one that is coupled with interest in scientific research, in the face of mounting people who see science as a hoax.
The next few years is certainly going to be interesting for the world of mobile computing. 5G is on the verge of being rolled out which is going to significantly increase on the go productivity. Spaceflight has often seemed like a dream for astronauts, but both of these companies are going above and beyond in order to successfully make this an affordable reality. Privatization of the space industry shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody that enjoys any amount of science fiction, but what is surprising that it is becoming a more and more attainable reality with every year that passes. The single limiting factor in spaceflight has always been cost and with both SpaceX and Blue Origin pioneering reusable boosters for their rockets that cost drastically lowers. We won’t be seeing warp speed anytime within our lifetimes, if ever, although it is theoretically possible according to physicist Miguel Alcubierre who proposed a system of travel that allows us to travel faster than the speed of light on a wave of sorts.
