What two places have these four things in common? Drugs, bullies, an optional education, and horrible food? Why, prison and school of course. Although some may think that schools and prisons are profoundly dissimilar, their similarities may be shocking to hear. For example, each state in the U.S. spends a remarkable amount of money to keep both programs running. In contrast, the only difference between the two is how the country allocates their money toward each program. I think I speak for everyone who has gone through the public education system when I say "School food sucks," its not something every student wakes up excited about in the morning, and many would much rather bring their own lunches to school than endure that gruel the lunch …show more content…

Firstly, prisons and schools allocate different amounts of money to each of their facilities based on what is perceived as important to any given State. The US national average states that schools spend about $118 per sq ft on their buildings (rsmeans). Whereas prisons spend about $223 per sq ft. It has to be taken into account total cost of constructing either though, schools amount to about $20,000,000 and prisons spend about $12,000,000 but it must be taken into account that prisons only encompass about ⅓ that schools do. Weapon ordinance, schools and prisons generally don’t allow possession or use of any kind of weapon in any way shape or form. However students don’t have to go through regulated body searches, in most cases. In prison, dress codes are simple, wear orange. Schools have a much more complicated dress code, clothing not permitted would include, but not be limited to, one-shoulder strap shirts, low-cut tops, spaghetti straps, halters, midriff tops, very short skirts or shorts, muscle shirts, and pajama bottoms.
