Table 1 below shows the outcome of the research conducted of variables of suspect characteristic, encounter characteristic and officer characteristic and how that affect the use of force use by law enforcement. In regards to suspect characteristics such as gender, demeanor and intoxication has a major impact on the use force implemented by an officer during an encounter. For instance the research would show that a male, whom was intoxicated and did resist in any way, or was in the process of being arrested would be much more likely to endure use of force by law enforcement during the encounter. Other characteristics such as race, age and social class provided mixed relationship trends, or established no true relationship to police use of force.
