Summarize the technology that will benefit police in the future: Police Technology, information technology is one of the most influential changes taking place in policing today. Law enforcement agencies are turning to social media as a communication channel, with the help from the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The department was created to educate law enforcement to use social media in preventing and solving crimes, to improve relationship within the community and to improve the police services. Through social media law enforcement are able to communicate with citizens and other law enforcement. Today one of the limited ways of a new technology has made this happen is” The National Crime Information Center run by the FBI. NCIC is a computerized database project that permits local agencies to report a limited amount of information pertaining to criminal record history, fugitives, stolen property, and missing person to the FBI”,(Walker-Katz; page 514), and in return this information, upon request the information can be provided to other agencies. The program, is a value access to police, but only a small amount of information can be shared. GJXDM allows criminal justice agencies to maintain their information in a standardized language providing for increased opportunities for data sharing in a consistent format with partners across the criminal justice field.”(Walker-Katz; page 514). Information sharing can increase effective decision making, aid prosecution in the administration of justice, and empower law enforcement officers. The ability to effective do one’s job in the justice environment sometimes can mean the different between life and death. If information is not properly managed and safeguard can be a liability. Because police agencies don’t have the personnel with the requirement skills to process the data integration and information sharing project, the project requires trust and willingness to share information, since police agencies initial doesn’t work well with each other they are very protective of sharing information. Safeguards must be followed to ensure that information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands can become danger to privacy, civil liberty, and civil rights.
