Management plays an important role in almost every aspect of a person’s life. Many people do their best to manage their personal time, money, goals, and decisions. People also tend to have some form of management in their social and family lifestyles. Management is important to understand and consider for a variety of situations. My focus in this paper will be to relate my management philosophies to defined management styles. I will also to describe my personal and social management philosophies and how they compare and contrast to one another.
My personal management philosophy does not have a set definition or guideline that it follows. My personal management style is dependent upon a given situation that I am going through or am involved in. For example, my personal time is managed according to completing priorities that are of most importance during a certain time period. If a person were to call me and ask if I wanted to participate in a certain activity while I was in the middle of completing a group project for a college class, I would turn down the offer to participate in the activity. Many of my decisions are based on if something has already been completed or not. It is tough for me to focus on some other activity or task if the activity or task I was previously working on is not completed. The feeling of completion makes me feel somewhat powerful and accomplished internally. However, the feeling of non-completion makes me feel like a failure depending on what the task or activity is.

Good managers do those things both effectively and efficiently" (Bateman & Snell, 2004). The management style is simply assigning tasks and then receiving the results. Management then gets it authority by being given the position in the business or organization.

A management philosophy helps an individual to know the direction and the steps to follow when in a position of management. The various concepts of management have been very helpful, and they have had an impact on my personal management philosophy. Planning is an action that involves thinking about a project and organizing them in a manner that is likely to lead to the desired goal (Dumas, 2013). This research has asked us to look into three different styles of management and find real life examples of companies or individuals who have or are currently using such styles of management. To begin we will take a look into the use of an autocratic style of management versus a participative. In this portion we will look into Leona Helmsley and her chain of hotels. Once this potion is completed, our next section will be looking into a centralized style of management versus a decentralized style. In this section of the research, we will be looking into Apple Inc and how they have built an empire with a centralized style of managing philosophy. Finally, in the final section of the research we will be taking a look at how Google has created an informal environment in which employees have direct access to executives and have the ability to share thoughts and ideas that are taken serious and to the heart.

Every manager must have a set of principles, values, and core beliefs that he must follow. These principles, values, and beliefs make up his philosophy of management. Webster defines philosophy as “the most basic beliefs, concepts, and attitudes of an individual or group.” (Webster) I will be discussing the principles, values, and beliefs I as a manager will have to do my job efficiently.
