When most people think of the words “family” and “love” they think of an able white male and able white female with an average of two able white children. This is unacceptable. A family is a collection of people who love each other. I am here to convince you that love should have no labels or boundaries and that everyone's love is equal no matter what form it is in.

Firstly, families of mixed race aren't accepted in every part of the world or by everyone they meet. Up until 1967 only about half of US states legally acknowledged interracial marriages. Children are also put through traumatic bullying because they don't fit into a category of white, black or Asian. Recently a friend stated that the state of the world is not right as society is more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than they are seeing two men holding hands. I thought about it for a moment before realising in horror that they were right! Some people believe that sexuality is a choice but would you choose to be discriminated against for your whole life? I don't think so. People still get hanged in some countries for something that isn't their choice. Is it really acceptable to victimise people for who they love? In Scotland, the same-sex marriage bill didn't pass until 4th February 2014 with the first marriage of it's type being only 14 months ago.

People believe that gay people are a bad influence on children and shouldn't be able to adopt. This is far from acceptable and shows how narrow minded some people are. Because, a study in the Williams Institute in America showed that children brought up by lesbian parents had higher grade point averages, stronger family bonds and thought of their parents as better role-models than those brought up by straight
