Positive body image in today’s society is a concept not many lingerie companies take into consideration. I would like to take this opportunity to present an effective strategy many magazines, like yours, can use to help take control of creating a positive body image for young women nationwide.

As a psychologist at the Counseling Associates of Madison, I am constantly seeing women battle with self-confidence issues the most common being comparing themselves to models they see in numerous televised events and magazine advertisements. The largest monopoly causing this mental dissatisfaction is Victoria’s Secret (VS). The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) reports, “This body type that is portrayed in the media is only possible naturally by 5 percent of American females.” Plus Model Magazine recently did a study that showed the average fashion model weighs 23 percent less than the average woman. This places a female model to be prone to anorexia. In addition, the ANAD expressed that 69 percent of girls in grades five through 12 were influenced by magazine pictures, believing that this is the perfect body type.

If a young woman or girl were to open Time magazine to find the advertisements I have created for you about positive body image, I feel that more mother’s and daughters will continue to view your magazine as a reliable weekly news source.
