Families strolling, children squealing , and adults gazing with interest; People go to zoos seeking entertainment; a way to see animals they never imagined being so up close and personal with. At least as personal as a someone can get with a two inch glass pane and fields of grass in the way. The zoo provides a fun and educational time for families, but the joy of seeing adorable creatures blinds people from realizing the pain zoo animals live with. Yes, from human perspective it seems very enthralling. But what about the animals actually inside these enclosures? Zoos are sad places for animals. And it’s not as if we can actually touch and pet these animals; since of course that’s too dangerous. We choose to keep these animals locked inside cramped up spaces considered too “inhumane” for humans. Some of these cages are smaller than my room; and that’s saying something considering I live in a house with 7 other people to save money. And the ones that are larger house a considerable number of animals including several infants. As humans, we view imprisonment as a form of punishment for murderers, rapists, and the lowest standards of human kind. Yet we subject animals, who haven’t committed a single sin to a sedentary life; when in documentaries we see them roaming the woodlands of Africa as they should. How cruel can we
