Vegetarianism Is the Way to Go Modern research reveals that a vegetarian diet offers indisputable health benefits in contrast to a traditional omnivorous diet. This trendy way of eating has become increasingly popular among young adults because becoming a vegetarian has never been easier and more satisfying in recent years. In fact, approximately three percent of Americans have adopted a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle (Rapaport). The main reason for the popularity of becoming a vegetarian is because of the health benefits; however, when someone chooses vegetarianism for one reason, they end up finding many other benefits they were not aware of at the start. Not to mention, since a vegetarian is not prohibited from eating all animal products, like a vegan is, a vegetarian can consume eggs, which provide one of the greatest sources of protein. As vegetarians become more keen, they discover their very own sources of proteins in foods. Other foods such as pasta, rice, and other grains can be put in the place of red meat (Liebman). When substituting foods in for meat it is important to make sure they are supporting the body. Be advised, not all vegetarian foods are healthy -- vegetarian junk food exists, including oreos. People who adopt a plant-based diet try to replace sweet and salty snacks with fruits and vegetables (Rapaport). However, fruits and vegetables only scratch the surface when it comes to eating healthy.
