Has there ever been a time in your life that you had to make an important choice? The decision wouldn’t just change your life for a short amount of time but for the rest of your life. Every day people go through that struggle. The difficult choice to be who they were meant to be. Not everyone was born who they were meant to be so in a result of that the person would end up getting a sex change. Acting like the opposite, dressing like the gender that is desired are the easiest things that a person could do. It can be a good thing that it takes on average it takes two years minimum to get the physical sex change done(“The Basic”). That is a good thing because the surgery is irreversible, there is no alternative to surgical assignment to change a person external genitals(“EEOC”). The doctors want to make sure that the person truly wants to have the entire operation completed. In some cases it is a good thing it takes so long because some people are not happy with the choice they made and they had to spend a lot of money on getting a surgery done that they were not happy with and think that it is a mistake in the choice they made. The medical costs are high and at times not paid or covered by insurance plan(“Understanding”). While many people think that there is only on surgery and that is to change the apperance but there is not specific “sex change surgery” there is actually a variety of surgeries that people can have done(“Understanding”). The operations is very expensive not a lot of people go in having an idea of how much money they are going to have to put into it. The cost for a man to have the surgery to be a women it costs between 7,000 and 24,000 dollars to have it done, however on the other hand the women’s reassignment cost could exceed 50,000 dollars(“Sex”). After getting the sex change surgery the person isn’t the same. They aren’t the man or women that they used to be, they are now a new person with a new gender. That means the person has to change everything and get a identification and other things like that. In a way the person was born again. They would have to start over and get a completely new name, driver license, bank account, medical records, birth certificate, social security, credit cards and other things that they need(“Medical”). People who chose to reach the very long goal of have the operation are more than likely aware of the time and patience that they have to put into getting everything changed.
