Obedience is defined as a compliance with an order, request, law, or submission to another 's authority. The problem with obedience is that we, as civilians, are blinded by authorities power and lose our right to free will. Obedience to authority leaves our minds to be corrupted by power, resulting in us taking on roles, participating in conformity, and performing thoughtless acts. From the day we are born our minds are brainwashed to allow higher status people to control who, what, when, where, and how we do something. Authorities are given credibility because of a uniform. We see a uniform as a representation of safety, protection, and guidance. Yet, those who wear the boots of society are the ones controlling and manipulating the minds of civilians. In addition, we are like herds of sheep, because we follow each other 's action. It is such an embarrassment if we are left out of the accepted normality that we are willing to make a fool of ourselves. 75% of people in this experiment went along with others wrong answer, because they did not want to the odd one out. This says a lot about how we are naturally codependent of our peers. This mindset leads us to harming ourselves, other people and society in general. Conformity is a harm to ourselves. “If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you too?” This common saying that is often taken as a joke is accurate in majorities of people 's everyday life. However, I cannot stress enough how true this is. We are so blinded by the fear of being left out that we do thoughtless things to fit in with the social normality. This mindset leads us to committing self-destruction. We cannot think for ourselves, because we rely heavily on other people 's viewpoint.
