Considering all that Japan has been through, people still find love for the person that everyone hates, and they will do anything to stay alive. America and Japan have gone through alot over the years, from allies to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. Then right back to becoming allies again. Japanese war bride Hiroko Tolbert married her husband to get away from all the dangers. So my question is, why fall in love with the enemy? At the time Hiriko wasn’t thinking about what was going on between Japan and America all she knew was that if she married this man that she would be free.
War brides is a term that is used when a man that is in the army marries a foreign women. War brides came from over 50 countries. Between 1944 and 1950 over 150,00 European women married American servicemen and over 50,000 married in the far east. The first marriage happened in 1942 in Great Britain and Australia, and it ended in 1952 with Japanese war brides. Throughout the war around 65,000 women married American soldiers and sailors there was a total of 758 Japanese war brides that made it in the U.S. with the help of the Red Cross. After World War 2, America didn’t allow many immigrants to pass through. At this time there was an act created called the war brides act, this allowed military personnel to bring in their foreign spouse and children. …show more content…

Even though they were able to get in America with their spouse, it doesn’t change the way how people feel about other and especially the situation with Japan. According to the washington post article, “They either tried, or were pressured, to give up their Japanese identities to become more fully American.”(Tolbert,The Untold Stories Of Japanese War Brides). Even the children would suffer from different racial comments, dealing with hatred from family members who don’t accept you, and supposed classmates that also to like the way you
