In 1991 research indicates that there were over 750,000 handguns in New York City alone and only a small part of them are legally owned and with this the crime rate has increased (Bernards, 1991). During the mid-90’s gun deaths in the United States were more than the deaths in the Korean War, new laws passed after the mid 90’s and crime and gun control still increased. No matter what the gun violence stats are many people still believe in gun rights. Violence among teenagers and young adults with guns has always been around and most of the time were their own worst enemy in the past and the present. Consequently what exactly does this suggest? Since the month after the Bill of Rights passed there clearly has been too many interpretations of the Second Amendment. A number of people believe that the Constitution doesn’t provide for people to have ownership of firearms for protection or specify the types of weapons somebody can own. Therefore, the people who believe the Constitution gives the right to own any weapon they desire. The federal government doesn’t say that we can’t own guns, but give city and state governments the right to limit ownership of guns. All States within the United States have in place gun laws to protect its citizens, it seems like anyone who desires to get a firearm to commit a crime can effortlessly get them and not by abiding by the laws. The guns are easily acquired when people by-pass the laws by purchasing them by way of gun shows, estate sales, illegal gun dealers, and through family members in the way of gifts or taking them from their family homes.
