Columbus is one of my favorite places on earth. I have lived in this city for about five years, and each day I seem to fall more in love! From our top-notch parks, the bustling young crowds, to the sensational food and coffee scene and the flourishing creative arts, Columbus really is an exciting place to call home!
All of these things that make Columbus so unique wouldn’t be possible without its people.
Columbus is a growing city where diversity and progressive innovation are coupled with Midwestern-work ethic. It has a laid back atmosphere, yet, it’s progressing and changing every day. It's a city where the yuppie, the hipster, the refugee, the immigrant, the homeless and the urban poor all walk the same streets and call each other neighbor.

We also recognize, however, the good and bad in the complexity of this growth. As individuals and as a church, we want to immerse ourselves in the center of this complexity. We desire to work alongside the progress of Columbus and its inhabitants in a way of reconciliation and not gentrification.

When you think of historical greats like Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King Jr. Columbus is not a name that I would use in association with theirs. Now on the other hand I see similarities between Columbus and Hitler. When we remember Hitlerwe look back on all the devastation that he caused and have nothing but empathy and admiration for the Jews and their endurance. Why not the same for the Indians of these great lands, whose tears and blood where shed for nothing more than mere greed.

A beautiful city full of life and joy is the best way to describe South Bend, Indiana. A vast 100,000 citizens strong, South Bend is a well diverse community. From Coahuila Mexico, over 20 years ago my parents moved to this city to provide our family with a better life. Just like everything else in life, South Bend continues to change by the minute. It is full of improvements and developments to grow into a larger and better known city. As beautiful as South Bend is to me, South Bend is like Chicago in the eyes of a foreigner.

Bigfoot is a large, hairy, apelike creature resembling a yeti, there are found in Northwestern America. There is another name that Bigfoot is called and it’s Sasquatch. Some people believe in Bigfoot and try to find it. Others who think it’s a ridiculous idea to be searching for something that no one can find. There are others who are in the middle and others who just don’t care. There are evidence from films, eyewitnesses, photographs, hair sample, and footprints.
Today in America, we see Christopher Columbus as a hero. In school we learn that he brazenly voyaged across the Atlantic and discovered America, and valiantly brought forth a new era of history. And then as we get older, we start to learn that there are some complications. Columbus may not be simply the bold adventurer we were taught he was. His discoveries not only opened a new world for Europeans to explore, but brought a less-desirable fate upon the native people.
The image we are given of Columbus is an image of bravery and leadership. He became well-known and had a noble title, but eventually lost his glory and was arrested because he was a bad leader in the Hispaniola settlement. Maybe he was brave. But he was a neglectful leader and immoral, twisted man. Columbus ruined the lives of the Natives. He invaded their territory and dehumanized them. However, his conquest gave rise to years of exploration and exploitation in the Americas. Regardless of how one feels about Columbus - hero or villain - his voyages cannot be dismissed as unimportant. Unlike all who came before him, Columbus opened a floodgate of follow-on explorers, armed forces and, eventually, permanent immigrants. They all helped create the United States. National origins stories are funny things. They are designed to make us feel good about ourselves, to make us feel special and to give us a shared unity and identity - but they rarely bear much resemblance to historical reality.
