A beautiful city full of life and joy is the best way to describe South Bend, Indiana. A vast 100,000 citizens strong, South Bend is a well diverse community. From Coahuila Mexico, over 20 years ago my parents moved to this city to provide our family with a better life. Just like everything else in life, South Bend continues to change by the minute. It is full of improvements and developments to grow into a larger and better known city. As beautiful as South Bend is to me, South Bend is like Chicago in the eyes of a foreigner. Woop woop! Is the common sound heard in Beecher Terrace (housing apartments). There are 2.3 million people locked up in the United States. Kentucky spends about fifteen billion dollars per year incarcerating individuals from Beecher Terrace. Since the 1970’s the number of people locked up in the United States has grown from 300,000 to 2.3 million. Kentucky has been the center of this prison expansion. Charles McDuffie, Christel, Demetria, and Keith Huff all have something in common. Each of these individuals are repeat offenders, grew up or lived in Beech Terrace, and have some type of mental issue.
Most people who grow up in Cincinnati cant wait to get out, but once they leave they can’t wait to come back because there is no other place like it. It has the small town “homey” feeling everybody grows to love, along with big city options that are easily accessible. Nobody ever wants to come to Cincinnati, but once they do, they realize how special it is, regardless of the territory. Its unique structure comes as surprise, yet, joyous experience and that’s what makes it special. East or West, North or South Who-Dey baby!

Chicago rests on 237 square miles of land along the border of Lake Michigan. If you are searching for adventure, cultural events, and festivals Chicago is the place to be. Nicknamed the Windy City, the city with big Shoulders the late singer Frank Sinatra best describes Chicago in one of his songs, as his kind of town. Chicago’s summers are magnificent on a hot sultry summer night nothing is better than walking along 15 miles of beaches, the lakefront, or strolling thru Grant Park, pausing in front of Buckingham fountain while the cool breeze from the lake and the mist from the lighted fountain can cool the body off.
This battle took place in Manhattan and was commanded by Colonel Robert Mcgaw. The fort had 8,000 soldiers and held as much as 34 guns, 43 cannons, and important resources. On November 16, three British ships holding 3,000 men all together sailed up the Hudson and shot open fire at the fort. Finally, on November 18, the British successfully captured 3,000 of American soldiers and took all of the supplies/artillery. This was a very important battle for the British who gained tons of artillery and resources while holding a strong position in New York.
If you were a soldier of the Continental Army during the winters at Valley Forge, would you have quit? The Continental Army was an army of militiamen that was created by the Continental Congress. The soldiers and generals in the army had little to no experience, and they lacked supplies such as quality clothing, proper shelters, and sufficient food. The Continental Army was led by George Washington, one of the best generals in U.S. history, who taught the soldiers almost everything they knew. On October 1777, British General Howe brought his army of 18,000 redcoats into the national capital of Philadelphia. Texas is an amazing state with a lot of history behind it, and amazing people and places within it. Most everyone knows that Austin, Texas is the capital of the state, but most do not know that West Columbia was actually the first capital of Texas. West Columbia lies within the amazing historical county of Brazoria. Texas is also the home of the historical Jones Creek, where the great Stephen F. Austin lived, which also lies in Brazoria County.
Did everyone has taken a moment to imagine which neighborhood that you like to live? The Chinatown neighborhood of Chicago is one of the historic neighborhoods. According to Harry Kiang’s Chicago’s Chinatown, “In 1890, 25 percent of the city's 600 Chinese lived along Clark between Van Buren and Harrison Streets, in an area called the Loop’s Chinatown. After 1910 Chinese from the Loop moved to a new area near Cermak Road and Wentworth Avenue, mainly for cheaper rent” (Encyclopedia of Chicago). The Chicago has two Chinatowns at the Southern part of the Chicago. Thus we can know that the old Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood is called the Loop’s Chinatown and located at Clark between Van Buren and Harrison Streets; the new Chicago’s Chinatown located
The Little Rock Nine. I’m sure for some it rings a bell, but for others it might not. Everyone should know about the Little Rock Nine, because this was a major event in America’s history. This is an event that made America the free land it is today.
The Chicago Cubs are an interesting part of Illinois history, even if they are not always successful. The history of Wrigley Field, the famous players, and the stories behind every game are why Chicago loves the Cubs. It is the atmosphere of the friendly confines when you walk in through those gates. It is jumping out of your seat when the ball is being hit out of the park. It is things as little as singing the 7th inning stretch with all the other Cub fans around you. Rooting for the underdog is special, and that is why Cub fans are so loyal. The history, players, and stories of Chicago Cubs Baseball are the reasons why it is an important part of Illinois history.
In the early nineteenth century, Boston increased in size by filling in the marshy area around where Washington Street is today. The city, concerned about crowding in the already established neighborhoods downtown and on Beacon Hill, decided to develop this area into new residential neighborhoods. The population of Boston had increased dramatically in the first half of the nineteenth century from the large number of immigrants and the steady rise of industry in a port city. Between 1850 and 1875, the area south and east of Washington Street (the ocean side) became the South End, which was intended to attract the growing middle class and to persuade them not to move to the suburbs. The pattern and plan of the South End are the main contributors to its architectural unity and also what sets it apart as its own distinct neighborhood. The choices in materiality and organization of space give the South End a visual coherence unlike any other neighborhood in Boston. It is one of the largest remaining Victorian residential neighborhoods in the United States.

One half of the story was of a man named Daniel Burnham, who was a famous architect of his time. It’s in this half of the story that can you see the good part of the city. Pride can be seen mainly throughout his story. His life in these pages was based on the construction of the World Columbian Exposition which was a fair held in Chicago in 1893. This magnificent fair was in honor of one of America’s most well known discoverers, Christopher C. Columbus. This was the 400th anniversary of his discovery of the new world. Through Burnham’s pride and his determination, he was able to complete the fair in almost a year. ...ious environment. It is typical in Chicago for neighborhoods to be referred to by there Church or the cultural environment of the primary language. This is very well linked to the hierarchy of the cities as such in Mesopotamia, and the delegated jobs and status of its people. This is evident in the neighborhood surrounding the museum, as there is diversity on the streets leading through the area. It is apparent that when you arrive to Hyde Park, the affluence is increased, possibly due to the education of the people in the area and direct access to a fabulous university. I am sure as time goes by, I will have much more information after visiting this area, as to where the societal break may have derived from, or not. I am looking forward to the experience of finding out more and why. Which I truly believe this project was all about. Expanding our where and why.
The majority of the residents in your district are affluent and educated. This will be the target consumer of New Urbanism. They will enjoy the pedestrian friendly designs. There will be many walkways and bike paths to and from the center of these beautifully crafted towns. Residents will benefit from having low levels of ground-ozone in their communities because walking and biking will be the new norm. You will be the reason a community of people is smiling when they have concerts, plays, and movie night on the lawn of their new town park. There will be playgrounds throughout these neighborhoods with slides, swings, basketball courts, and cook out grill stations. You know what sounds better than Congresswoman Brooks? Governor Brooks.
