According to MedicineNet.com, birth control is the use of any practices, methods, or devices to prevent pregnancy from occurring in a sexually active woman. Today birth control is offered everywhere. It is incredibly easy to obtain birth control. Special clinics even offer several different methods of contraceptives at a very affordable price. Many high schools, colleges, and universities even give out free birth control methods including condoms and the birth control pill. With over ten different types of contraceptives to choose from, a woman can prevent unwanted pregnancies, improve overall health, and even help the economy.
There are close to fifteen different types of contraceptives for a woman to choose from that nicely accommodate to her body and lifestyle. The first and obviously safest method of birth control is complete abstinence. Abstinence is obtaining from sex completely. Another way to prevent pregnancy is by using barrier methods, which include female condoms, male condoms, cervical caps, and contraceptive sponges. There are also hormonal methods of birth control. They contain estrogen and progestin, or progestin only, and are a safe and reliable way to prevent pregnancy for most women. The hormones can be received by: daily pill taken orally, skin patch that is changed weekly, an injection that is given once every three months, an implant that is worn under the skin for up to three years, a ring worn in the vagina that is changed monthly, and an intrauterine device (IUD). Choosing whether of not to have a child really is a decision one should be able to make without the judgment of others. Abstaining for unprotected sex is all around extremely beneficial from preventing unwanted pregnancies to help decrease the chances of getting a sexually transmitted disease. The history of birth control is almost a glimpse of what women history was life, from several year ago when it was banned to now being an easy, open option for all women.
Birth control can be extremely beneficial to women who are not trying to have babies. Perhaps if more people were informed, more women would be on birth control and there would be less unwanted pregnancies in the world.
