There are many different ways you can adopt a dog and there are many different places you can adopt a dog, depending on where you go it could be easy, but other shelters it might be a long process. Some shelters will look for a dogs forever home, others might just want to get rid of the dog because there are too many dogs there. You could go online to look for a new dog, or you could go into the shelter and meet with the dog one on one. You could also look into either adopting a shelter dog or a rescue dog.
Even though shelter dogs can be unpredictable, they can also be very loving, or seek a lot of attention. A lot of dogs are given to a shelter because of a change in their house hold, it could be something as simple as a new member in the home. Knowing all these things could be helpful, because if you didn't know that the dog you adopted was abused with a broom or something and you took that broom out and it got scared it could possibly bite, and you would blame the dog, but in reality it wasn't the dogs fault, he was just trying to protect himself.
Even though there are so many ups of adopting a dog from a shelter there are also some downs. When you adopt the dog you might think its the sweetest, most innocent thing, but you have no idea how the dog is going to act in your home. They could be potty trained, but they might still try to mark in your house.
