Imagine if figures like Christopher Columbus, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. never came to this world. Imagine if the discovery of the Americas, the ending of slavery, and the notorious Civil Rights Movements never held a date in history because of an abortion. What would the world seem like today? An abortion represents the willing, inhumane termination of a pregnancy. With no remorse or consideration, women across the globe undergo abortions daily. The defenseless human in their womb is murdered with no say for its life. Not only do abortions end the lives of human beings, but they slowly kill the mother and society along the way. Women seek the easiest way to terminate a pregnancy because they do not feel capable of raising a child or prefer to further their education rather than raise one. Instead of furthering their education prior to pregnancy, they waste their time having risky sexual intercourse. Without consideration of the consequences, women undergo the life-changing procedure. According to PubMed Central, in 2004 of the 1,209 United States abortion patients at eleven large providers interviewed, 74% cited that having a child would interfere with their education, work or ability to care for dependents (Finer). If women consider a child an interference, then the consequences of an abortion will wreck them. Negatively affecting the mother, abortion’s lower their health state and produces psychological instability. A study done in Tehran, Iran with women who underwent an abortion once in their reproductive cycle reveals that at least one-third of the respondents experienced psychological side effects (Pourreza). Abolghasem Pourreza reports “depression” and “worry about not being able to conceive” as the dominant psychological consequences of abortion among the women with 60.5% and 53.6%, correspondingly. The same way a child learns crucial lessons from their parents, epic jokes from television, and unforgettable bad words from others, they will also absorb trends from society. Fast forward fifteen years and that child grew into an adult, but still continues to demonstrate the learned customs of his or her society. This portrays the negative effect abortions cause on society; people consider it outstanding and resourceful, leading others to follow. Little do they know, abortion’s stand the most selfish act of all. Following the 1973 United States landmark decision Roe v. Wade where a woman’s right to an abortion stood ruled, the number of adoptions fell from 175,000 in 1970 to 130,000 in 1975 (Bitler). Such decrease in the sum of adoptions totals the abortions taking place after Roe v. Wade. Abortions affect society when it comes to adoption and foster care systems, minimizing the happiness an infertile couple receives from an adopted baby. If one does not feel capable enough to raise a child, then give it off for adoption once it comes to life. One child at a time can produce immense satisfaction to the millions of infertile married women across the globe.
