• Do not set up a workshop until students have been assigned. As you can see the numbers are low for this sanction.
• Have students begin their counseling sessions at the Winther Counseling Lab right away.
• Be up front with the students that this is not a session on whether marijuana should be illegal or not but rather what are the effects of marijuana. I found that this upfront attitude kept students from taking the course to that place.
AODA Coalition
I served on the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) Coalition, which is chaired by Amanda Krentz, the AODA Educator at University Health and Counseling Services. The Coalition meets once a month at Ambrose Hall. It has member from around campus. They recently obtained a grant from the

The team rated Justin a 5 due to that he has resources and is seeing a counselor at UHCS.
• Make sure when you create the case you restrict it just to the CARE Team, you list your office at CARE Team, and you list the student as CARE Team.
• When you rate a student a 5 and close out the case in Maxient, make sure to find the student “responsible” for the charge.
• You will want to add sanctions in so that you can track the time spend with a student, whether an email was sent, face to face meeting, phone call, referral to UHCS ect. See the Charges and Descriptions document for more information on this.
• You will be assigned to do reach out with a majority of the students, Res Life and Mary Beth will do the others. Make sure you communicate a lot with Res Life as they will often tag team students with you.
• If you cannot find a phone number for a student, call police services in Goodhue, Deanne there will be happy to help you find one.
• I recommend setting up a CARE Team Facebook page, just to message students you are trying to get a hold of. Students check their facebook, but they don’t check

• Set deadlines and stick to them.
• Set reminders in Maxient. Your case load may be heavy so this is a great way to keep track where you are at.
• When you assign students to AAW or MAW, charge them right away, don’t wait till they take the course.
Hearing Examiners/Committee Members
Hearing Committee Training can be found at: T:Student Life-Dean of Students StaffHearing Committee training. There are two folders, one with Training Powerpoints and one with the Conduct Board list. The Conduct Board 2014-2015 list is updated. I have included on it when they were trained and who appointed them. Conduct Board members are appointed by Faculty Senate, Whitewater Student Government, and the Staff Assembly. We are also allowed to hand pick and train students. In the powerpoint folder, there are two main presentations to use. UWW Student Conduct Panel Training and Sexual Misconduct Board Training. I would recommend holding both training sessions on the same afternoon. I had good luck with Friday trainings and then would catch up other members one on one if
On February 27, 2014, I visited an Alcohol Anonymous (A.A) therapeutic group meeting called Another Chance. Another Chance is an intergroup meeting located inside the Concord Baptist Church of Christ, at 833 Gardner C. Taylor Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY 11216. Another Chance has been in operation for over thirty years, and holds open discussion meetings on alcohol use and prevention, every Thursday from six in the evening until seven o’clock. This group interaction with alcohol substance use and abuse focuses on helping all members regardless of race, ethnicity or culture, to abstain from drinking one day at a time; and encourages them to maintain healthy thoughts and emotions through the use of the “Twelve Steps and Traditions” of recovery and intervention approaches.
The center combines a safe housing environment with structured educational programs that incorporate the philosophies of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Alcoholics Anonymous is the original self help group founded on principles that provide support and encouragement for recovering alcoholics. New members are encouraged to work with a spon...
I attended an AA meeting at the 5th street fellowship on October 6, 2015. I looked forward to attending this meeting since the beginning of the clinical rotation. The meeting exceeded my expectations. It was an eye-opener and a life changing experience. The meeting at the 5th Street Fellowship consisted of a leader and two members. Even though there was only a smaller group gather, I could see the positive impact AA has had on each of the members personally, regardless of years of sobriety. The chairman of the group discussed the influence his sponsor, AA, and the 12-step program has had on his life and how he lives a happier, healthier, and a spiritual life due to his sobriety. I learned that all three components - sponsor, AA, and the 12-steps – are important in aiding in the sobriety of an
This approach would have allowed for the justification of a higher E&M billing based upon built in mechanisms. This area of weakness is possibly reflective of providers under billing for education services. The lower coding of E&M by providers could be associated potentially be due to fears of accusation or audits associated with higher charges. This fact may have skewed the results in the favor supportive of under billing. I have worked in the past with providers fearful of this and as result they chose a lower billing code they knew would be
There are two groups of people pertinent to this project. Members of AA will provide information through sharing their experiences in interviews to those that will read and learn from the project, such as future alcoholics, new AA members, college students, and everyone in between. The members of the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are the most valuable first-hand accounts, and will be the first to supply information with this project. Though a few members may be less than cooperative to provide personal information, most are more than willing to share their experiences in order to help others in any way possible. In the first visit to the AA meeting, several o...
Marijuana may control the way people act, think, and even hurt their college academics. Marijuana is one of the most popular used drugs in America ranking about third after tobacco and alcohol. Marijuana is a substance that has become very much a part of American culture; many college students have either used it occasionally or regularly. With that in mind, I thought it would be interesting to find out about students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and their use of marijuana. In fact most students might not even know what they are smoking and what exactly makes them feel the way they do.
Parents have the right to be included in placement decisions, IEP developments, and evaluations. Schools should collaborate and communicate consistently with family members due to the fact they know their child better than anyone else and can be a powerful resource, as well as an advocate, for their development and education (American Foundation for the Blind, 2015). Furthermore, information regarding a student’s disability is highly confidential. IDEA clarifies that such information may be shared with only individuals who are working directly with the student (Friend, 2014).

...ssures to be the best they can be academically. With all these pressures of adolescence on the rise, more and more teens are falling prey to the alluring “high” that allows a temporary leave from their problems and stress. Because teens lack the maturity and knowledge to understand long term consequences, they tend not to think about the down falls that they will face as a result of the drug use. This is especially true when it come to marijuana, as it is seen by so many as the harmless drug. With the increased use of marijuana by youth over the last three decades, it is imperative that better preventative measures, and firmer penalties, be put in place to educate and raise awareness concerning the risks and dangerous side effects that marijuana use can have. Only once society has put these preventative measures in to action, will there be an effective change seen.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
As a grade 9 student who attends Hillcrest School, i’ve noticed the number of students complaining about overwhelming amounts of homework they receive on a daily basis. I write to you in hopes to create a homework policy that most of the students that attend the school recognize as beneficial not only for them, but also for the parents and teachers. The homework policy comes will follow specific guidelines created so it's flexible for all students, grade one through grade 12.
My opportunity to personally interact with these students appeared with Circle of Love, an Interact-hosted
